Art Blakey, "New York Scene", Joshua Redman, "Spirit Of The Moment", Mingus Big Band, "Live In Time", and of course, Wayne Shorter, "Footprints Live". There are a number of archival recordings, performances dating from the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's, but not issued until 2000, 2001, 2002. These include Ammons & Stitt, "God Bless Jug And Sonny", Stan Getz, "My Foolish Heart", and John Coltrane, "Complete Village Vanguard Sessions" and "A Love Supreme, Deluxe Edition". Most notably, the 2001 reissue of Charlie Parker, "The Washington Concerts", has previously unissued Bird performances from 1952 and 1953 which must be heard to be believed, including a track with Bird and Zoot Sims. This is a must-have.

1. "Ellington--Live At Newport 1956" - Re-issued 2-CD set that includes the incredible 27 chorus tenor saxophone solo of Paul Gonsalves that nearly resulted in the concert being shut down due to the incredible crowd response and the combined fear of Newport promoters and police that a riot might result.
2. "Live Wires" - Yellowjackets (GRP, 1992) concert at Roxy Theatre.
3. "The Road to You" - Pat Metheny Group (Geffen, 1993) release recorded during the band's European tour.
4. "8:30" - Weather Report
5. "Gerry Mulligan/Chet Baker Carnegie Hall Concert" (CTI, 1975) Re-issued in late 1980's.
There are a host of others that I may return and mention later.

jazz underground-live at smalls. smalls is a hot bed of great jazz in lover manhattan and this cd is excellent. it features a few groups, the omer avital group, charles owens quartet, jason lindner big band, across seventh street, zaid nasser quartert, frank hewitt sextet. charles owens is one of my favorite new tenor players and is featured with his own group as well as some of the others. i don't know how i forgot this one on my first live cd post.
