FDR invited people like Billie Holiday and Hazel Scott to perform at the White House.

The most profound political influence on jazz has probably been the South's racist policies and racist attitudes, in general, which inadvertently created jazz musicians out of people who might otherwise have sought a different career. Fletcher Henderson comes to mind, but there were other important ones.

Due to the civil rights and Black nationalist movt. especially, in the late 60's, early '70's many jazz musicians incorporated more nationalist elements into their music. In regards to song titles and instrumention in particular.
