I have an auditon this monday for a jazz band. In one of the audition's music that i have to play there's a symbol or accent on top of the note like a parenthesis '(' opening up:
-__-
/||||\
\||||/

Does any one know how should this be played?
thanks,

your description is a bit unclear, but:
( and I'm guessing ..)
if the "parenthesis" is in front of the note, it might indicate a lip gliss down to the note ..
if after the note, it may indicate a lip bend up ..
if it's a horizontal parenthesis, it may indicate a lip bend or dip ..
hope that helps ..

It is a horizontal parenthesis opening upward like a smile. Its on top of the note, like an accent(>).
I need more help,

DIEGO:
as I said , it's probably a lip bend ..if the right hand side goes up more than the left, it also indicates a "lip up " on the note.

>>it's probably a lip bend
How should i play a lip bend in a trombone?, i guess it's the same for most brass instruments,
