I just got Dave Holland's "Not For Nothing" cd and have found I have to turn the volume up quite a bit to hear it. It seems like it's about half the volume of most of my other recordings. Can anyone who owns it out there tell me if you have the same experience. I don't think it's defective because it sounds fine but it just seems so quiet. Thanks.

I don't have that problem... (the volume may be something lower, but not half of the other cd's i've got)

I've often noticed that ECMs play at a lower volume than other new CDs. When we used to play ECMs on the in-store play at work, we had to jack the volume way up just to hear it. Not the case with new Sonys, Verves, or EMIs.

Thanks for the help guys. I think the cd is ok, just kind of low. I have noticed the ECMs play a little lower but most of the ones in my collection are much older. I figured it was a technology issue but I guess not. I appreciate the help.

I've noticed this too with all the Keith Jarrett on ECM. It's especially noticeable on Changeless, which is like a whisper compared to other CDs. It's odd to me because I find ECM CDs to have such good sound quality, with the exception that you have to turn the volume up so high just to hear it

It's funny because 'What Goes Around' suffers from a much more loud & compressed sound for some reason.

Yeah Changeless is one of the ones I have that is quiet but since it's from the 80's I figured maybe that was why. I have a few of the newer ECM Jarrett's and the sound is fine. ECM does always have good quality some are just low I guess. That's kind of what frustrated me in the first place. The music is top notch so it kind of bummed me out to feel it even a bit compromised by having to crank my speakers way up. Maybe the Germans have nicer stereos than we do or something.
