My aim through this thread is to create a friendly network of musicians to help and entertain each other. I shall refer to notes in concert-pitch, with middle-C denoted by C1 and so on. I am 17 and study at college for my A-Levels.

I am something of a "freelance semi-professional", playing with numerous bands and orchestras with either instrument. I am part of the Johann Strauss Malta Big Band, which is a favorite with the Maltese, every year (last year was an exception) closing the Malta Jazz Festival (MJF) in August. I sometimes play the piano and jazz-guitar during rehearsals... just for fun :). I also am soloist with the National Band.

I'll start off with a dilemma I've had for the past year:
"Why is it that all through Summer 2001 I would easily manage to play up to Eb4 and now i only manage till G3?"

You could also help me out with choosing my new jewel...
I saw what happens to Courtois' through time, so i didn't add it to the list. If you have any other make, or have a model to suggest, please leave a reply to the thread - I travel a lot and telling me where to find it would be very handy (esp. in Europe).

There are easilly a half dozen and more other makers you could list, such as Blessing or King. Some of the past horn blowers could even do well with a Conn Director. I'm not personally a horn player, but I'm sure you'll soon get a number of other suggestions. A trumpet, or any other instrument, does not have be a high dollar model to be good, or even great.

Thank you Tim. I only listed the only few good instruments to my knowledge, as here only Amati, B&H, Besson (London), Yamaha and V.Bach are imported by stores - and the best model you'll find is a lower-class semi-pro.

I'll have a look at their sites if i manage to find them, and i'll add them to the list if i find the way... From the pic i assume you play the banjo - i've never heard any other instrument play as fast. "Deliverance" (for Banjo & Guitar) of Vangelis (from 1492: Conquest of Paradisep soundtrack) is one of my favorites. Is the banjo difficult for a guitarist (medium skill, with pick and small neck/fingerboard [electric])?

Another thought:
What do you think about the Asymmetric mouthpieces of NASA altissimo John Lynch? Has anyone ever tried one??
