OK I know this isn't very original, but I would really like to find a recording of the Wagner classic Here comes the Bride in a jazz format. I have heard it so many times played live, but the one I really love is at the end of High Society - done of course by Mr Louis Armstrong. We can't afford a live band :( but would LOVE to play this for the ceremony. Does anyone know of ANY recordings of this nature?
Ever hopeful....

There doesn't appear to be any sign of it on the soundtrack or cast recordings.

You're best bet may be the DVD.

I can't help in locating this version, but it *is* a cool idea!

But didn't Mendelssohn write the Wedding March???

Yeah hopefully it'll be cool but it's proving harder to find than we expected. I'm wondering now if we should use a different jazz piece - we want it to amuse people and be upbeat, but also be ceremonial enough to walk to. So an ideal tune would be say Oscar peterson's 'Hymn to Freedom' off Night Train - something that starts with a bit of reverence and then builds up into that incredible jazz sound. But it's too long! Anyone know anything else like that, but shorter?
(Oh, and yes Mendelsohn did write the wedding march, but 'here comes the bride' comes from Wagner's opera 'Lohengrin' as far as I know.... I think... I hope I'm correct!)

Most jazz probably will be to long, so you might have to fade it.
The Norwegian band Orleysa on the CD of the same name (Odin Records 1992) plays "Bruremarsj" which means Brides March - based on a Norwegian folk melody. This is a modern mainstream jazz version w/trumpet/sax/rhythm and wordless vocal - great music. I believe it's still in print an can be obtained from
www.barejazz.no.

Of course you could use Messengers Blues March as well, even if that one is very "marchy".

Actually its a good reference book with ideas for things to do that don't necessarily include scantily clad women (but those ideas are thrown in too...)

This is a great CD (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000064XV/qid=1052786839/sr=2-3/ref=sr_2_3/104-6182543-3868755#product-details)

Lesley -- It doesn't have the Wedding March Processional ( which is a terrific idea) but does have Louis Armstrong's "My One and Only Love" which would be beautiful for a wedding or reception. Good luck in your search.:)

Unfortunately, the soundtrack for High Society did not include this song. I happen to have a DVD of the movie, so I ripped the audio for Armstrong's jazz wedding march.

I wanted to get the normal wedding march and the jazz one together, but unfortunately, some dialogue takes place during the normal march. However, the jazz version is 33 seconds without interruption. In one version, I took out the part where Louis says "End of story!" at the end of the march.

Anyway, I uploaded them so other people can use them at their weddings.
