After I`ve managed to get through christmas and new year celebrations alive I went on my regular saturday shopping tour today, and my favorite jazz-CDshop off course. Music was playing in the store and as so often before I had to ask what it was. It was the CD "Underground" (1997) from british tenor, soprano ans bass-clarinet player Courtney Pine. This is great music, off course I had to buy it and I`m lookin` foreward to listen to more music from this great artist.

yes, courtney is great contemporary saxophonist. he is typical two-faces musician. on one side he played in late 80's straightahead, and in 90's he began with post-hardbop acid jazz od drum'n bass style, and shows the way of jazz in the future. i can advise album Back in the day... really hot funky grooves :)

The thing that I really like about Courtney Pine is his ability to play it all. Inside, outside, straight ahead, acid jazz, the dude is just limitless. Now he just needs to get to New York, where someone might actually hear him.
