I thought I saw that Phil Schaap is going to interview JVC Jazz Fest impresario George Wein at a Barnes & Noble store in NYC. I think it is the Chelsea store at 7 p.m. on Friday night, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Does Wein have a book out? If so, I sure hope it is more imaginative than his recent programming of his jazz fest.

It's called "Myself Among Others" or something like that. It is being shipped to me from amazon.com and I believe it just came out. I'm expecting it to be very interesting reading. The man has dealt with just about everybody in jazz for more years than I've been alive and I've had my AARP card for quite awhile!! I'm also curious to see if he mentions my father who worked with him doing advertising, publicity and public relations at Storyville and the Newport Jazz Festival, etc. since their inception.

With any luck, the "interviewer" will have the tables turned, as Wein will (hopefully) question Schapp's rewriting of various jazz history (Ellington at Newport in particular).

I ordered it online too. Still waiting for it to arrive, although I perused a copy at B&N and it looks to me like it's going to be like it's going to be pretty interesting.

Of course that won't happen, but if it did, you can be sure that Schaap will embellish history with further fantasies.

BTW, don't be surprised if Schaap tells George that he has his birthdate or other personal information wrong!:D

Thanks Valerie.

If you have ever seen Phil Schaap "interview" anyone you will know that George will have trouble getting a word in edge-wise. Phil will talk and talk and talk some more.

Would you believe that he even did it at my ex-husband's funeral?!?
