Hey jazz guitarist, post here what kinda amp (and effects) you use... and why! You can also post what guitar you have,

amp:
I use a Roland Jazz Chorus (small one, sounds better than large)

effects:
-Line6 POD for simulating tube sound and reverb etc.
-Line6 DL4 delay modeler. (many old delay effects in a modern digital box, Kurt Rosenwinkel and many guitarist I know have 'em, it's really hip now (so that makes it maybe not so good to have it :) )

guitar: Ibanez Artsar AF 200 (look at my avatar picture)

and you?

I play rock (heavy metal) guitar, and let's just say my current rig leaves something to be desired :) I also play an Ibanez, though not a good one. Going to be getting a better electric soon and some more effects. I only have a Boss ME-33 multi-effects floor unit (good for delay, reverb, noise gate, and chromatic tuner--some other effects don't do much for me) and a Boss MT-2 distortion pedal (nice!) run through a small solid-state Marshall atm (good for what it is), but I'm only an amateur.

I play an American Strat, with ash body, maple fretboard, but i'm kind of needing a better tone as of this point in time. I use a good old Fender Deluxe Tube amp. No effects.

my current jazz axe is a D'Armond Starfire....we got it on liquidation for like 300...it's a decent semihollow, gets good enough tone with the cheap factory pickups. Once i get a combo together and start trying to get jobs around here...+ birthday and christmas money i want to try to get a 7 String Novax guitar...with the fanned frets but i'd like it to be semihollow...so i'll have to see how that turns out. Getting something custom built is probably too big of an investment seeing as how i'm not nearly good enough to play on a guitar of that caliber. I might just decide to get a luthier to make me a fanned fret neck and pop it on the D'Armond...i don't really know yet.

I play through Fender Hot Rod deluxe (all tube baby) and occasionally i'll hook my rig up through my Arion Stereo Chourus pedal to get an organ sounding effect.

Currently a Gibson es-335, had a 325 but was stollen. I run through a Fender hotrod delux (I dig it, the sound is really clear and beautiful)

I'm currently only using a hint of Overdrive off the tubes, but am looking into getting some new toys as I'm a huge Abercrombie fan

One cool toy I've gotten is a Korg ToneWorks Pandora PX4. It's a headphone amp/multi-effects unit/drum & bass machine/tuner/etc. all in a tiny unit. A very useful, fun practice tool.

Wow ! I wonder how well those effects sound. Would each effect be as good as a normal pedal?

Some yes, some no. Overall, they're pretty good, at least for home use, and there's lots of room for tweaking/programming them. They have some samples on that page I linked.

I use either my '01 LeGrand or my '64 ES-355 mono through a '65 or '69 Twin Reverb, no pedals, I like it naked.:eek2: :D

My favorite is a Parker Nite Fly, played straight through a Crate TD-70 amp. I also have a Fender Strat, Tele, and Jaguar; which I usually play through a Fender Sideman-R practice amp. My acoustics are a Fender Resontator, and an Alvarez dreadnought which is currently out on loan.

I was thinking on a fretless (jazz)guitar. I saw Pat Metheny do that, but that was a kinda acoustic guitar. Anyone has ever seen an electric fretless guitar?

Hey can we bassists chime in? I have several basses but my main axes are my Tobias 5 string and my Ibanez 5 string basses. I also use my Fender Jazz 4 string for soloing. My amp is a Hartke 3000 [300w] head. I use 2 Avatar speaker cabs. One is a 2x10 and the other is a 1x15. For effects I use either my Zoom 506II pedal [pretty noisy] or my 'bank' of Boss pedals [Bass Chorus, Limiter/Enhancer & Noise Gate].

I've seen electric fretlesses and fretless nylon strings. I believe the nylon was a Godan guitar, I tried it out but I don't like Nylons generally because there's not enough tension in the strings, or at least on the last few I played there sure as hell wasn't!

Hey folks,

I'm using a Epiphone Emperor (Joe Pass) with factory pick-ups through a tweed Peavey Delta Blues tube with a 15 inch speaker. Sounds like a Fender Bassman. Pretty rich.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a clean replacement pick-up (humbucker) for a hollow-body such as this?

Thanks,

MW

My pride and joy is a Danny Gatton Telecaster. Cost a few bob tho'. I use Marshall keyboard amps as I like to switch from guitar to bass. I'm not one for huge stacks of effects units. I've got an old wah-wah pedal, a very old BOSS flange pedal and will occasionally borrow someone else's phase pedals. Other than that, nada.

I have a Heritage 535 semi-hollowbody guitar and I'm currently using a Fender Blues Jr amp. Lately, I've been staying away from effects.

Look into Kent Armstrong, Benedetto or Shadow pickups.

How's that Artcore? I've been playing less rock and starting to learn jazz, so a reasonably priced archtop may be on my horizon.

Yeah, I'm pretty much like you, I've pretty much gone away from playing rock. I played lots of different hollow bodies when i was looking for one and this one just seemed to play the best i thought then i looked at the price tag and couldn't believe my eyes. It sounds great for the price.

The Super 5 is my flagship, but also have a blonde 175, GB10, SG Standard
in korina, a DC LP+, Fender Jazz Bass and Washburn acoustic.

I own 5 Boogies, love the Formula preamp for recording archtops!
