I've been listening to the best for years...Ella, Billy, etc...I need to find some new female singers that I love as much as the classics. I heard of a Norwegian artist on NPR, Sissel. Does anyone know anything about her? She sounded talented!

sissel kirkeby or something like that? She is actually very good at what she does. Here is sweden she is on tv atleast 4 times per year so I have seen quite alot of her. She is very mainstream though but still worth checking out.

Its interesting because she may be very mainstream over in Sweden but few people over here (US) have ever heard of her. I think she's jsut beginnign to break into the US music scene. I don't think it will take her long to make a name for herself here because she is really good. I just got her new CD and I love it.

Well here in sweden the competition is not as hard as in the US so whenever someone good comes around the media usually give that person some exposure (as long as the music is sellable). I'm glad you liked the cd, you might wanto check out the swedish vocalist Carola, she is very famous over here and also a skilled vocalist with pretty sweet songs (if you are into that).

Thanks alot for the suggestion. I will definately try Carola. I would love to hear any other suggestions for people I might like as much as Sissel. Im open to all kinds of things.

This warning might come a little late - but - Carola is very commercial and has nothing to do with jazz - she's a middle of the road pop singer and I would not recommend anyone to spend their money on her. There's a couple of other Swedish singers worth checking out, however, like Victoria Tolstoy (yes, granddaughter of Leo) and Rigmor Gustafsson, as well as Norwegian sensation Live Maria Roggen and her group Come Shine.
On the orher side of the pond you have Rene Marie, Roberta Gambarini, Karrin Allyson, Dianne Reeves, DeeDee Bridgewater
and Sheila Jordan still delivers more than most, and quite a few others coming up as well.
