There seem to be a lot of jazz musicians out there who do a good job in other fileds of arts. Sometimes it is even their original job.

Painters in the jazz world I know of:

Kate Westbrook (British singer, songwriter, instrumantalist) is a professional painter (examples see http://www.westbrookjazz.co.uk/gallery )

Drummer Tony Oxley is a painter too. Quote from fmp website: Like Bill Dixon he also works as painter. His paintings have been displayed in Bejing, having performed with Trio Cercle @ Bejing Jazz Festival in October 1996, as well as during the TOTAL MUSIC MEETING 2001 in Berlin (´Visual Sounds´) (along with exhibits by Bill Dixon, Carlos Zingaro, Peter Kowald, Uli Gumpert, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Paul Lytton, Sven-Ake Johansson, Floros Floridis, Hans Reichel). Some of his gouaches served as cover art for various of his CD´s.

Can you add more, preferably with samples/links?

John Heard, the very talented bassist, is probably one of the best examples of this category. His pen-and-ink drawings of other jazz musicians are mind-boggling as well as his bronze sculptures.

Meredith d'Ambrosio, the wonderful, unique singer and composer, is also an extremely accomplished painter. Her website features some of her work.

Doesn't this sort of thing just piss you off? Oh, thanks God- I see you gave that person MULTIPLE talents... thank you SO much! ;) Actually, I'm only half-joking (or maybe 3/4 joking). I've got an older brother who is like this. He's demonstrated that he can play any musical instrument he chooses (mastered the friggin' TROMBONE in about two months), and I won't even try to describe his natural artistic talents.

Pee Wee Russell was quite serious about his paintings in his
later life. I don't remember all the details, (maybe Lon or someone
can confirm) but I think Pee Wee started his painting after being
seriously ill (1950 ish), and continued to paint for the rest of his life thanks to his wifes encouragement.

Pee Wee stopped painting after his wife died.

George Wettling also painted. One of his paintings was used as a cover for the original issue of his Columbia album.
