Folks, check out this British jazz/improvised music collective. I read about them in a feature the British magazine JAZZWISE, and they're doing some really hip shit, both musically and non-musically. They're trying to run a completely self-sufficient music collective....they have very eclectic but rhythm-oriented tastes. Read about the different bands, what they're doing in the way of workshops and public education, download sound files, etc. Jazzypaul, I know you'd be interested in what these cats are up to....read about "Jade Fox". Seems like your kind of "fusion"....

Thought I would bring this up front again, F-Ire are still in business. For me their star is Ingrid Laubrock, but then I have met Ingrid, heard her play and like what she does. If there was any justice in this world she would be..... well you know.

Text of a recent e-mail from F-ire (OK it is a mail list one, so public)

Caught you all at Vibe Bar last week and it was one of the best live music experiences I'd had in a long time. Thank you so much. Wish I didn't live so far away (Chicago) otherwise I'd be catching you in all your forms many times over. Will return around June 16,17,18 to London. Plus, give me informed on Synergy CD release, please.

Rock you later...

A very promising initiative.

I saw Timeline, a group drawn from these musicians, last year. Very intricate jazz-rock reminding me a little of Steve Coleman. Groups like Tom Arthur's Centripede (which includes Ingrid) and Polar Bear are getting alot of good press in the UK.

Hopefully these will be well represented in the UK festivals this year.
