The Terminator met Bush today in California. The 2 of them together, combined I.Q.? Maybe 92? These are the ruling intellects in our country circa 2003. :embarass: :embarass:

Every morning for the last 3 years I have read the Times watching the parade of this administration's policies. This morning however was the ultimate. They're canning the Hubble space telescope, the most important contribution to science of the entire space program. They intend to use the money tospend on their ill conceived trip to the moon and Mars. I am speechless. This is the most ignorant president we have ever had. Where is H.L. Mencken when we need him.

The bar does seem to be on a spiral down. GW is the worst yet, and from the way things are shaping up, we may get four more years of his ill conceived dictates.

I cant belive that arch prat Bush is planning for the investment of $quillions in his Mars fantasy when the US is in debt to the tune of $ trillions. It might be a good idea if he invested in trying to save this planet rather than looking to exploit and ruin another one. What's wrong with this f***ker, what has he got against the natural environment?

You don't suppose there's any oil on Mars do you?:wink2:

Elsewhere I have conjectured that the presidents new science adviser is Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell or maybe Daffy Duck. How else can you explain junking the Hubble telescope for no good reason. I have reconsidered however, having thought it to be a natural outgrowth of a man who still can't pronounce nuclear never mind understanding anything so dense.

I have concluded that the truth is somewhat more ominous. The manned trip to Mars makes no sense at our present level of technology. At a present estimate it costs above 10000 dollars a pound to lift a load just into LOW EARTH Orbit! Consider how big a apace ship is required just to bring the food along. Then theres the radiation from both space and the surface of the sun. Imagine the amount of shielding is required for the crew. Then consider the fact that all the diodes and transisters will have to be shielded to keep them operating for the full length for the trip.At a minimum 4 times the fuel is required than for a one way trip, plus who knows how much more for safety margin. Temperatures are worse than the worst on earth, winds can be over a hundred mph.I could just be starting.

And when will these wonders come to pass? Only initial planning will be done by the end of W's term. By that time the space shuttle will be history, space probes will have been cut back and by the time 2008 rolls around, NASA and its projects will be a distant memory. This master project will justify cutting back on most other scientific research/ They've already cut stem cell research to little or nothing ---meanwhile the Brits are making stem cells available for legitimate research and probably everyone else is too but the religious nuts running this government. To them separation of church and state is a joke, -DAMN------This administration is making me psychotic.

Think of it--Junking the Hubble telescope--the most productive, the richest, most valuable telescope ever built. For what? For a project that is surely out of our present technical reach. For some vague political gain he's going to trash our entire science program and I haven't heard squat from any scientists about this idiocy. These people make me sick and discouraged.

I reckon Dubya must've recently been watching 'The Red Planet' in which Val Kilmer and buddies are stranded on Mars but can breathe without oxygen tanks because of the presence of algae. He probably thought it was a documentary. Some people have said he's as not as dumb as he appears. I've heard him speak. He is dumb. His command of the English langguage is as pitiful as his grasp of world current affairs and his understanding of different cultures values. He typifies the worst kind of Western arrogance in stating that US type capitalist democracy is what all others should aspire to.

How disheartening!

Really!

I am being sincere here!

He believes he is divinely inspired, and therefore the coalition of radicals will support his every move!

Sure they will! They have so far!

Is there any hope!!!???

We were having a laugh at some "Bushisms" in the office today, when one of the guys said that DubYa had degree(s) from Harvard. Is this true? Like real degrees? not just the collect 20 packet tops from corn-flakes ones??

Certainly, to my way of thinking, Bush's command of the English language (his first and probably only language, so no excuses there), is of a very low standard. Since language is what we use to communicate, his inability with the language certainly makes it look like he is short of an active brain-cell or two

Yeah-strange as it seems. A Yale undergrad degree and a Harvard Law degree.

Aw Come on!

Law requires an accuracy of expression like no other profession. Miss a comma out on a document, and it can change the meaning of the whole document. With his, apparent, standard of English how on earth did he pass the exams? (rhetorical question!)

Check this story out. I heard it on CNN today and find it so off the wall that you should make sure I got it right, as I will. From what I heard, women in Iraq, under a projected change in the present law will no longer have the right to a judicial trial, but must submit to the judgement of Christian or Moslem prelates. Of that much I am pretty sure, and the ladies of Iraq are not happy about it. The fuzzy part is that this is somehow approved of by the American powers that be over there---I don't know specifically who approves, or at what level. Is this as incredible as it sounds? It sounds beyond even our present administration, or am I being naive.
Did anybody else see this newscast? As I say, try to follow this story to verify it.
And get it right. I am going to.
If it is true and our administration is behind it, it deserves to be spread around to the ladies of this country.I don't think they'll be pleased.

Hello Frank!

I didn't see the program, nor have I heard about it, but have had my thoughts and activities elsewhere for a while, so no telling what I have missed.

Just so tired of the mess everything seems to be in, that I watched the reality show about the engaged couple, and laughed and laughed. A nice break from the craziness going on in the real world.

I think that actor would be a fun guy to know, and think he is doing a good job of driving that poor girl up a wall. She is a pretty good sport about it all, even though her goal is the money, I still think that she acts cute. Sounds like her parents are super overbearing, but they raised a nice acting girl.

I just need a break from it all once in a while and forgive me one and all for enjoying some of these shows.

Back to your post, I sure hope that this isn't the case. If it is, what in the world are we trying to accomplish? Are our own politicians living in the bronze age themselves? Women probably had more rights back then than they want to let them have in this day and age, at least in certain parts of the world.

Look at the backwardness of countries that aren't equal with rights being afforded women, I just feel that it puts them behind other countries in their accomplishments. If we are backing such a situation, then shame on us.

Not Harvard Law, guys. Harvard Business. Yale undergrad.
Harvard Law was beyond his abilities, as Tenorman suggested.
He wouldn't have been granted admission, had he been Joe Blow, with his grades. Luckily, he was a Bush, his father was an alumni, so he got a pass. His grades were unremarkable and he spent most of his time in the Pep Squad. But, he did get a degree, from both Universities, so he can say he attended Harvard and Yale.
I would guess, by the way he reads his prepared speeches, that his reading and comprehension skills border on dyslexia. Have you noticed that he can't read ahead and stops in the middle of sentences, if he is at the end of a written line?? Scary.
Bush was in the National Guard, while his contemperaries were being shipped off to Viet Nam and Korea, so he has military credentials, though they are a little murky. His wearing military dress, as Commander in Chief is like a costume party.

once more, the Hubble space telescope has demonstrated its value to science- a value we won't have any more due to the idiot in the white house.

If you want to see what that value is for yourself, just type in Hubble on Google and read it for yourself. Hubble has found for the first time a planet circling a distant star with an atmosphere including carbon and oxygen. Once again Hubble has proven to have contributed important scientific knowledge about our universe, more than the space platform or most of the shuttle flights, save those that serviced the Hubble. And this superb astronomical instrument, the finest telescope in man's history, has been doomed by an ignorant politician who still can't pronounce nuclear correctly.
