According to an upcoming CBS TV Movie, Ronald Reagan claimed that he was the "Anti-Christ" during his presidency. I've never thought of Reagan as the "Anti-Christ" at all. I've always thought of him as the "Anti-Intelligence". That's much, much worse than the "Anti-Christ".

I gotta agree ..

The current appointee to the Reichstag is FAR MORE dangerous, stupid, dogmatic and overall dangerous with his crew of neo -fascist minions than Bonzo ever was ..

however, history seems to repeating itself ..

except with much more potentially lethal consequences...

I remember, during the Reagan years, spotting the mid signs of what I thought was Altzeimers [my late mother was in the last stages at that time] and hoping that no major crisis came up during his term. Then AIDS came along and people were contracting it, while his administration pretended, for the most part, that it wasn't a problem, because it was ONLY affecting gays, drug users and Haitians. Then, it hit the blood supply and Ryan White [the little boy with hemophelia] died. A "safe", sympothetic victim to mourn. All of a sudden it was a crisis.

Meantime, the Iran/Contra thing was going on, right under his nose.
At least he had his condition to prove that he really didn't remember, if he ever knew.

Bush doesn't have Altzeimers, but he's out of the loop and I think really doesn't know what's going on. Just as dangerous.

Troubling times.

Interesting, but Reagan's slowly disintigrating mind was more worrisome to me, and would have been just very sad, if the security and reputation of the country were not at issue.

He was charming, the way a slow child is charming and a great teller of stories, from the fifties, in which he seemed to be living, while he was in office. He could avoid any direct questions [holding his hand up to his ear, while rushing to a noisy helecopter, for example] and I think that the press was far too indulgent of his habit of falling asleep during important meetings and his love of an eight hour day.

To me, the leader of the free world is not just another worker, and when stuff is happening, he should be burning the midnight oil. But, what do I know??? The President is no longer a decision maker. His underlings are at the helm and that, during the Reagan administration and now, under Bush II's reign is what is really scaaaaary.

Reagan was wheeled out to speak other people's words and wheeled back into his safe cocoon, leaving others to actually be the decision-makers, as is Mr Bush.
When both ad-lib, they both seem to have a bit of a problem thinking on their feet and answering direct questions which require actual knowledge of what's going on. Both voice platitudes and THAT to me is truly SCARY.
If Reagan were the anti-Christ, he would have been much more crafty. As it was, he was, I think, just out of the loop. Perhaps "loopy" is unkind, but.............remember his little joke when he thought the mic was off about attacking Russia??

Or, what about his statement that trees give off more harmful pollution than cars do???
Loopy. Not evil.

He was more like a Kewpie Doll to me. With the red cheeks and the jet black dyed hair, he looked like a wooden puppet. He wasn't much smarter. He had that dumb "Duke" Wayne persona that he was acting out, and he wasn't even a good actor, he was a bad actor. How and why did people fall for that bullshit? That's America for ya! "Well, I wanna tell ya' pilgrim."

Interesting! Ronnie Jr. said in a interview (paraphrasing) that his father could block out the rest of the world giving people the impression he was rude.

That's not a good quality for any high official!!

Anyone think there's any truth to the "John Lennon was murdered by the government" theory? Interesting that Reagan took office right after Lennons murder. America became very conservative in the 1980's. Lennon had the power to stir up alot of youth against convention. I wouldn't put it past our goverment. I'm not saying I know it's a fact, but it's not inconceivable to me.

The longer I am alive, the more the world, unlike when I was a child, when it was black and white, becomes hundreds of shades of gray.

Nothing is inconceivable to me now, when I would have scoffed at such a notion before I lived a little and became a cynical gimlet-eyed doubter.

I don't know about John Lennon, in particular, but there did seem to be an abrupt shift to extreme conservatism during the Reagan years. Public attitudes seem to be like Siilly Putty. No one seems to want to think. It's easier to let the government do it for them. I despair that we are all turning into small children, afraid to question, afraid to fight for the truth. We would rather sacrifice our young men and women's lives in the interest of securing someone else's place in history.

How will these times be written in the history books of the future??

Thanks. I'll look for it.
You might, if you haven't already, read Randy Shilts' book "And The Band Played On" about AIDS and the Reagan administration.

This country is very adament about their "don't fuck with our beloved rockets and bombs" mentality. Sure, they're all fuzzy and warm and reagan-y on the surface, but right beneath that veneer is a crazy joan crawford-NO WIRE HANGERS!!!!!-maniac.Don't fuck with our wars, Don't fuck with Duke Wayne, Love It Or Leave It!!! We all know the mentality. That gay kid who was killed in Casper, Wyoming? There was a story on the news last night, that these right wing maniacs wanna put up a "monument " saying that the poor guy "burns in hell". You know, the guy was brutally murdered by these nuts, and now they want to add insult to injury. These are the "Real Americans".
