Tell ya what...I just printed out the whole thing (is that legal?) Listened to some good music on Pandora while it was printing. I love looking at scores, and this is definitely, from what I can tell so far, extremely worthy.
Thanks for the link man.

This is a great collection of tunes. A red light went on when I read in the introduction that one of the two sources he checked his work with was the Omnibook. The Omnibook is fairly dubious as the final say.
I think transcribing Bird heads is difficult because of the (lack of) fidelity of the recordings and the fact that another instrument (usually trumpet) is playing in sometime quasi-unison, (as if the piece was learned on the spot?).
Perhaps for the above reasons, there seems to be a bit of subjective interpretation in transcribing these pieces. I saw a comparison on the Internet of two different transcriptions of the same version of Confirmation by guys that do a lot of transcribing (one was Reed Kotler of Transkriber software). It was amazing how different they were!
More than once I’ve heard some poor lackey say, “I’m going to work on my reading with Omnibook”, or,” I’m going to get the Omnibook out and work on my jazz”. This is missing the boat by a mile. It would be better to use your own ears even if you don’t come up with the same thing as the Omnibook. With all the amazing transcription software that’s available now, who knows what subtleties you’d discover.

Transcribing music for your own use is legal. Transcribing it and then publishing the results, either gratis or for benefit, is of extremely doubtful legality. Music or lyrics put up here are normally removed - like to keep it well on the safe side of the law
