Never got around to getting this. I enjoyed Khan's previous tome on "Kind Of Blue". How is the Coltrane book though?

If you liked Kahn’s Kind of Blue, then you’ll enjoy his Love Supreme. Among other things, it features a rare Van Gelder interview that even resolves the mystery surrounding the second sax. From what I understand, Kahn’s research also had a lot to do with deluxe Love Supreme double CD coming about.

As a superficial side note, the Coltrane book isn’t as nicely produced as is the Davis: cheaper, thinner paper with some unpleasant “print through” characteristics, and the choice of typefaces and their formatting is coarse at best.

There is another edition, with an orange dust cover, and a bit more " conventional" book size.
Currently being sold off in the cheap book stores for abot $9.00

I agree with shawn-m. If you liked Kahn's KOB tome then you'll like his follow-up effort on LS. Lots of good stuff in the latter about Bob Thiele and the Impulse label.

As an aside, on this board someone noted that Kahn is currently working on a history of the Impulse label. There was an excerpt from the tome published in "Jazz Times" I believe and it was an exceptionally good read. I wait for it with bated breath.

PDEE, I got this version you are talking about at a members' book sale here at Stacey's in San Francisco for $8 brand spanking new!
It appears to be the U.K. version.

Khan's style is so accessible, especially to a person who just enjoys the music and is clueless about music theory & notes like me.

I have both these books on my Xmas list, my kids asked me what I wanted from the three of them. It just so happened that the local book shop, which has almost no jazz books, had both books in ;)

I hope Father Christmas brings me what I want?

Coincidentally, I just found it today in Stacy's bargain basement for $9.99 - had to buy it!
