Blue Note: A History of Modern Jazz--

This 2 hour documentary is airing on digital cable's True Stories channels during the month of December and is primarily a history of the rise and fall of Blue Note Records. It covers the artists signed to the label and others associated with it during the Alfred Lion 'jazz' years. I found it immensely interesting and plan to see it again tonight, in its entirety this time.

I think this might be on VHS cassette or maybe even DVD sold by Blue Note and other online retailers. If so, it's well worth the price... just my opinion, of course. Your replies are invited.

I saw it on Bravo a couple years ago and found it very interesting at the time, though I knew little of jazz then. It's available on VHS but not DVD, afaik.

I know there isn’t enough meat to the production to please everyone, but I enjoy it. I missed the original airing and bought the VHS. Since then, I’ve caught the last 10 or 15 minutes of a re-broadcast and it looked to me as though the broadcast and VHS were edited differently. Anybody know for sure?

How long is the VHS tape?

I recorded the TV version of the documentary some years ago and I remember it being in two parts.

Claude, the 90-minute VHS would make for two 45-minutes episodes, except the intro and credits would be duplicated on each part.
