isn't it ironic that the dixie darling strom thurmond has a daughter by an african-american. isn't a 21 year old having sex with a 16 year old considered rape? did he force himself on her? did he persuade her by threatening her with her job? the press is treating this like a curiosity--but they are not seeing the criminal element to this. a man who made a serious run for president raped a sixteen year old and the good old boys seem to be chuckling about old strom the womanizer. it was over 7 decades ago, but it should be more than an ironic bit of news.

I guess it is better to think highly of your father, as that gives you a higher opinion of yourself, but I don't get it myself.

Oportunists! Both men, played the race card for all it's worth, not believing in a word they were espousing? Or were they truly racist bigots of the worst kind? Just another face of politics. A nasty business way too often.

markvi, you seem to be forgetting how very long ago this was! In 1924, no one would think twice about a 21 year old and a 16 year old getting together(now, the race issue, that is alltogether another story!) Remember, it would have been forbidden for BOTH of them, and hence, more of a turn-on. Her mother did keep in contact with Thurmond, and so did his daughter.....He claimed to change his views on race as he got older....Now, Jesse on the other hand, would rather chop off his Wienerschnitzel, than have relations with a woman of color!
