I saw this Wes Montgomery video the other day, and it was SCARY how much Harold Mabern was playing just like McCoy Tyner. You talk about a pervasive influence- there were a number of musicians at that time: Stanley Cowell, Mabern, and others who were playing like Tyner almost to a tee. You hear Mabern today and you probably would not have guessed that, but he started out pretty much as a McCoy clone.
