A few fave recordings sans drums:
Lucky Thompson - Tricotism
Warne Marsh & Red Mitchell - The Big Two
Bud Shank & Lou Levy - Lost In the Stars
as for powerful big band material, everyone will have their favorites - IMO most of the great big bands were powerful. If you want over the top, try Stan Kenton - The Innovations Orchestra or Sketches on Standards - anything with Maynard Ferguson playing high trumpet. You could check some of his later stuff, but it's heavy going.

I believe that Chet Baker made a number of albums without drums in his later years. In de Valk's book, Chet is quoted as saying that the presence of drums forces everyone else to play louder, so he went without the drums and relied upon the bass player to provide the beat.
You might consider
Diane, his duet with Paul Bley on Steepechase.
Chet's Choice on Criss Cross
Live from the Moonlight on Philology
