Toots Thielemans was at Lietchfield Jazz Festival where i heard him play and he gave the summer music school a master class. I got a hold of a couple of his songs but i want more. Anybody have any particular cd's they would recommend of his?

thx!

Fortunately, Toots Thielemans has recorded frequently during the CD era. Some of his best work can be found on: Don Not Leave Me (Stash); Man Bites Harmonica (OJC-Fantasy), Live in the Netherlands (OJC); Footprints (Emarcy); Only Trust Your Heart (Concord); and Images (Candid). There are many other titles also worth investigating.

Two very important dates as a sideman should be acquired as well: Oscar Peterson: Live at the Northsea Jazz Festival (Pablo);
and Marc Johnson: 2X4 (JMT).

He's also a blast to interview and will play harmonica over the phone for you!

Brasil Project part 1 - with Brasil's greatest musicians.
East Coast West Coast - with ao Robben Ford

The two Brasil Project discs, especially disc 2. Besides great harmonic playing they are also great introductions to some of the best of Brazillian pop and jazz. In particular, Caetano Veloso, Djavan, Ivan Lins and Joao Bosco.

Have you seen the film with Dustin Hofman....
Tootsie?
There are more Tootses indeed. Thousands of Tutsis in Central Africa, too.
Toots Thielemans was nicknamed after another jazzmusician.
Was it Toots Cammaro or something like that?

Very best Toots Thielemans, according to me: Bill Evans' Fantasy album "Affinity" (1978); his own "Images", Choice cd (1974) with Joanne Brakeen and Cecil McBee; "Only Trust Your Heart", Concord 1988 and -live- "Ne Me Quitte Pas", Camden 1999 with Fred Hersh, Joey Baron, Marc Johnson or Harvie Shwartz.
This last wonderful group has a dvd too, "Toots Thielemans Live From new Orleans" Leisure Jazz 2004.

There was a recent JazzSet broadcast of a live Brazil project led by Toots that is outstanding.

"Oscar Peterson Big 6 at Montreux", 1975, originally released on Pablo. Toots' solo on the first song is amazing. The group also includes Milt Jackson and Joe Pass.

I don't have this, but I know people who do, and they swear by it -

I'm not sure if he is still actively recording with Brazilian musicians, but he's done some great guest spots over the past couple of years.

My mom is really fond of this one -

Swedish as I am I of course recommend the Aquarela album, the hot latin jazz album
recorded a cold and snowy winter in Stockholm in 1969.
On here you find the famous Wave track.
