I heard Ellington's "Strange Feeling" on the radio the other night, a song that appears on the mammoth RCA box, and which I had heard only once before (I obviously need to re-visit parts of that set more often). With an artist like Duke, there are always so many great tracks that can easily get lost in the massive shadow of his canon... Others I like but don't hear often are "Magenta Haze" from '46-47 TRANSCRIPTIONS and "The Mystery Song," which got a nice treatment from Steve Lacy on his EVIDENCE LP.

'Searching (Pleading For Love)' from Ellington's '62 ('61???) trio recording "Piano in the Foreground". There's a cowriter credit to Steve Allen who apparently provided lyrics. Don't know if it's been covered either instrumentally or vocally by anyone else. It has been erroneously identified in earlier reissues as either "Yearning for Love" or "Peadin' for Love".

I have a weak spot for a simple piece called "Sweet Mama" on Brunswick 12/10/29 - Cootie is beautiful on this. It's not the same piece as the Harmony "Sweet Mama, Papa's Getting Mad".
