Hello:
Does anyone have any recommendations for either younger / newer musicians out there or more recent recordings?
I've been building my collection mostly of older classics (Coltrane, Davis, Rollins, Brubeck, Monk, etc.)...
However, I'd like to find more recent recordings.
I thought Standard of Language (Kenny Garrett) was great...
Any suggestions out there?
Thanks!

Eric Alexander - sax
Christian McBride - bass
Gonzalo Rubalcaba - piano (although he's been around a little while)
Jimmy Bruno - guitar
Joey DeFrancesco- organ
Matthew Shipp- piano
Mac Gollehon-trumpet
John Hicks-piano
Mark Shim-sax
Wayne Escoffrey- sax
that's all I can think of right now

Ellery Eskelin’s Hatology recordings really captured my fancy a few weeks ago, and I’ve barely been listening to anything else –actually, I’m just now beginning to get back to my normal habits. I guess Eskelin doesn’t exactly qualify as “new,” but I think he, Parkins and Black are among those who make for a good case of jazz being alive and well today.

Marcus Strickland "Brotherhood", Joe Martin "Passage", Ethan Iverson "The Minor Passions", and most of the other artists on the Fresh Sound New Talent label.

My (very parochial) response to your query is simple: Buy Aussie!

How about...
Marcus Printup - "Nocturnal Traces" (1998) - the best release from one of the today's best young trumpet players.
Roy Hargrove - "With the Tenors of Our Time" (1993) - The best release yet by another of today's best young trumpet players.
Anything by Wallace Roney, yet another of today's best young trumpet players.
Brad Upton - "Black Orchid" (1999) or "Dragon" (2002) are both slick contemporary jazz recordings.
And that's just some of the trumpet players...

Vijay Iyer--a very compelling young pianist that I was fortunate to see last fall at Sweet Rhythm in New York.

Thanks for the suggestions...I will definitely check them out.
I'll probably focus on the saxophone players for now...
Joshua Redman's "Wish" and "Spirit of the Moment" albums, I liked them both.

Joe Lovano--Quartets: Live at the Village Vanguard (multi-style multi-instrumentalist, best known for his sax playing)
Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but don't forget that lots of the classic players have put out albums in the past few decades or even in the past year or two:
Hancock
Shorter
Jimmy Smith
Miles
Joe Henderson
Sonny Rollins
McCoy Tyner
Peter Brötzmann
Brubeck
Silver
Elvin Jones
etc.
