One of the UK audiophile magazines - Hi-Fi+ - has a test report on the Blue Pearl Audio turntable
Check it out on http://www.bluepearlaudio.co.uk
Just a few stats
Cost £48,000
The platter weighs 100 lbs (47Kg)
The whole thing weighs over 270 lbs (127 Kg)
Queue up in an orderly fashion, now - there is enough for everyone:D
Edit: for some obscure reason the link above comes up with "You are not authorised to view this page - What did it check my bank account before deciding whether I can see it or not???
Edit 2. The site is "Under Construction" What a sensible company, they get a 5 page review and their web site is down:confused:

It must be nice to have a cost-doesn't-matter approach to life. I'll never know!
What sort of stand can bear the weight of that turntable? Does it come with its own stand?

£48,000 !!!!!!!!!
At that price I'd expect it to include garage, garden and utility room.
And a maid to change your records for you!

The turntable is integrated with the stand which appears to be polished black granite. The reviewer said that it was the very best turntable. One of his sample LPs was Ella singing the Gershwin Songbook.
No it doesn't come with a maid, French or otherwise, but at that price, the cost of hiring a maid would be a negligible addition.
Oh it looks fabulous, but it is going to be hell to dust. There is no cover
Just a thought. If you were shelling out that type of money, would you trust a maid with your precious Vinyl?

Before I decide I'd like to know- Does it play 45s and 78s as well? my 78 RPM player is wearing out and I have to get something to replace it.
PS: What are the shipping charges?

Yes, it plays all three. There is even the allowance for a second tone-arm so that you do not have to change cartridges when you play 78s.
Don't worry about shipping charges. They send it over as ballast:D

Sounds like a pretty good deal except for the price.

In the same magazine, they had a tone arm reviewed at £4700 and a cartridge at £2995
So you can have a turntable for the price of a terraced house up North, a tone arm for the price of a decent second hand car and a cartridge for the price of a good holiday for 4.
Doesn't sound much if you say it quickly

But to get the most from all of that, you'll be needing the $40K preamp (not forgetting the 15k phono amp ;) ), the $70k tube power amps, and the $50 speakers.
...And do you wanna know, do you really wanna know what it all sounds like?

C'mon, Uncle Scroogle don't be stingy.
Only 50k for speakers, you could do better.
I suggest this http://www.audioreview.com/Main,Speaker/German%20Physiks,Tiebreak/PRD_119557_1594crx.aspx
for only 250k, a real bargain!!!

Well I did say $50 rather than $50k speakers didn't I :embarass: :D
High end audio sounds like ... high-end audio.
The "high end" exists in its own little and highly subjective world.
If you are simply looking for accurate reproduction of the audio signal, much better can be done for *far* less* - especially if you shop wisely.

Sorry!
BTW I own and owned several "high end" gears (Linn, Mark Levinson, Martin Logan, Audio Research, VTL, Wilson Audio).
Usually I bought them used, I saved until 60/70% of the cost.
The "high ender" love the latest stuff reviewed. So if you search a little it is possible to find good gear at a "reasonable" cost.
A good vacuum tube preamp, ten years old, still sound gorgeus today!!!

I have just found the Amp to go along with that deck
Halcro DM10/DM68 pre/power combination at £75,000 That is Pound Sterling. According to the review it delivers stunning mid-range clarity
Anyone like to suggest some speakers. £15,000 is the best I can do at the moment for a pair of Wilson Benesch
OK just checked the link above $250,000 say £150,000. That sounds like a reasonable match
one reviewer has this to say
For Value I give these a 1 star because no one can afford them except the VERY rich or someone who sells there house.
Now all we need are the interconnects, speaker cable and a CD deck

There are some japanese tube amps much more expensive.
Try this http://www.audioreview.com/Amplifiers/Audio%20Note,GAKU-ON/PRD_115581_1583crx.aspx
or, if you you like solid state, this
http://www.audioreview.com/Amplifiers/Krell,Master,Reference/PRD_115877_1583crx.aspx
and a preamplifier
http://www.audioreview.com/Preamplifiers/Boulder%20Bikes,Model,2010/PRD_125268_1591crx.aspx
grand total $ 275.500.
With the speakers above is more than half a million.
I am wondering how many african child you could save with this money.
I am sure they would sing better than any "high end" gear, at least to my ears.

Well look at it this way. I spent a very enjoyable holiday exploring Southern Madagascar some years ago. At that time there were 1800 Malagasy Francs to £1 (say 1000 to the dollar). I could purchase (at tourist prices) 3 small sponge cakes for 1 Malagasy Franc. We were warned that our camera kit was probably worth 10 years or more income.
The Malagasy were were the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. They had next to nothing, but would share their last grain of rice with you, just because you were a guest.
I have been having some fun with the un-obtainable (to me anyway) luxury of Hi-Fi that costs more than than the average house in London. Believe me I know what that money could do both in Liberia (a country I know intimately) and Madagascar. I also know what damage such money could do if spent more unwisely than on Hi-Fi
Just for the sake of a bit of fun, can we get this hypothetical system up to $1m or even £1m??

I was not blamin' anyone, but sometimes we need to "put the feet on the gound" (as we say in Italy).
The name of this thread is "outrageous turntable" that I find appropriate.
I agree with you about spendin' money on something more unwisely, talkin about Africa I think about diamonds for instance.
Maybe when I posted my last reply I wasn't in a good mood, I am sorry you thought it was a kind of reproof, it wasn't my intention.
We surely can put togheter a 1 million dollar set up. Here is a link for cables http://www.fatwyre.com/masterlist.html
