Who is George Barron?

Was listening last night to the recent RCA / Bluebird reissue of Lonnie Liston Smith's ASTRAL TRAVELLING and was quite impressed with this Philadelphia-based saxophonist's Shorter-cum -Pahorah inspired playing, especially on "Let Us Go Into the House of the Lord" and "In Search of Truth" (ahhhh, the 70's...). A quick trawl of AMG shows he appears on a few recordings, all of them led by Smith.

Any further info available?

Don't know for sure, but Bill and Kenny Barron were born in Philly.

Saxophonist George Barron is from Philly. I don't know if he's related to Kenny Barron.

George Barron had a gig last Friday at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, so he's still around. He also has two musician sons: trumpeter Jarid and pianist Farid, who's been a pianist with the LCJO.
