It's 10.45pm on saturday night here and we've just had a report that Mr Bin laden has been captured.

I'll keep you posted.

Personally, I think it's crap, 'coz the timing just ain't right for GW's election campaign.

Exactly, he'll be captured in late October 2004.

Frankly, I wish he would just shrivel up, dryup, and blow away, never to be heard from again.

I can't bear the thought of his becoming a martyr, it would just increase his standing with the fanatical's bent on murder and destruction. His standing with them is already stratispheric, can you imagine if he is captured? He needs to be I know, as do his top men, but it is going to start a whirlwind of suicide bombers, and no telling what other disgrace's, all in the name of religion.

i strongly believe that he was captured some time ago and is being held captive until the exact moment when his "capture" will pull in the most votes.

About a week ago I was in bed in the early morning listening to the news on the BBC World Service. I could have sworn there was a report that he and Mullah Omar were surrounded by American special forces and the British SAS in a remote part of Pakistan with no chance of escape. But it could have been an unusually clear dream - that's certainly what I thought when I heard the day time news and no mention.

So it's now a strong rumour at least. Perhaps they did escape and there's too much embarrassment to announce it.

i think i heard that, too. also, osama's chauffer is in custody. it's hard to imagine a scenario in which osama and his chauffer would be more than a few hundred yards away from one another.

pull your hair all you want, but you'll be seeing tongue depressors in osama's throat before the election.

"Before the election" is the key phrase. My money is on late October, whether he's been captured already, or they just know where he is.
If he had the tongue depressor in his throat now, attention spans being what they are, it would be old news in a week. There are nine months until the Election. Time enough for the world-wide animosity toward the U.S. to be an election issue, along with the unimaginably huge deficit, the joblessness and the yanking away of hard-won civil rights.
I'm cynical enough to think that bin Laden's capture is the Bush administration's ace in the hole.
