In the mid-Sixties (specifically late 66-early 67) there was a club call Birdland in London (presumably named after its more famous cousin). I have pinned its location down to the Jermyn Street, Duke Street area but cannot get closer. Anyone know where it was exactly?
Thanks
Steve

I have just taken a look through Groves Dictionary of Jazz, and they don't mention a "Birdland" in London.

If you don't get any replies here, try writing to JAZZWISE magazine. They have been doing a series on now closed down clubs

OK There definitely was a Birdland in London see quote below from Sept 1966

Jimi Hendrix arrives in England (24th), accompanied by his new manager, ex-Animals bassist Chas Chandler, who first saw Hendrix (as Jimmy James & the Blue Flames) at Greenwich Village’s Café Wha on July 4th. The pair stage auditions for a new band at the Birdland in London on the 29th. Noel Redding (ex-Loving Kind) subsequently joins as bass guitarist.

Thanks for your efforts and advice, Tenorman.
I'll certainly try Jazzwise.
It's the Jimi Hendrix connection that has brought me here. I am putting together what started as a small piece and has turned into a 34 page special for Jimpress, the Jimi Hendrix UK fanzine. I've managed to find most London locations (although quite a few are now Estate Agents/Building Societies/car parks) but I just have a couple o foutstanding problems after several treks to the capital and several pairs of shoes.
All the best
Steve
