I picked up The Cry today and was blown away. I haven't had enough time to process this album other than to say that I give it my highest recommendation. Any thoughts on this albium or on their other collaborations?

If you like this your going to really love the follow up Firebird. Simmons and Lasha also join Eric Dolphy on several recordings.
Simmons has been on a tear in the last few years in terms of a comeback!!

Also you might want to have Lasha's INSIDE STORY, a nice Enja CD which includes the title-giving LP (with Herbie Hancock) as well as a later LP originally issued as SEARCH FOR TOMORROW)

Firebirds, because it also features Bobby Hutcherson, sounds like a West Coast version of Out to Lunch.

I downloaded The Cry from emusic this morning and I really like it. I'm going to buy it as soon as I can. I've forgotten how good those OJC's can be.
I purchased Firebirds about 9 years ago. I listened to it and didn't like it.
However, I didn't like Out to Lunch at first, either. I'm going to pull Firebirds out and give it another shot. I usually hang on to my jazz cds, even if I don't like them at first. I'm glad I kept Firebirds. I can't wait to listen to it.

Lasha and Simmons also play on the Elvin Jones/Jimmy Garrison Sextet album "Illuminations". Good music but short playing time and might be OOP.

The Cry is one of my top all-time jazz LPs, period. Amazing stuff. "Congo Call" is a great tune... Firebirds I thought a bit of a snooze, but yeah, I second both the aforementioned and Illumination for some serious Lasha-Simmons action.
Cheers
