It's sad to see that all their sessions are OOP. Does anyone think they'll be a Mosaic or Mosaic select one day? I have quite a few of there sessions, But there are at least 2 that I have never been able to find.
Vibrations
ColdWater Flat
Anyone have any reviews they would like to give on these 2 sessions? Are they worth hunting for? Also, going through the Blue Note discography book, there seems to be a lot of sessions tahe never seen the light of day yet. Maybe they weren't up to Blue Note high standard, but I would like to hear them.

Hey, how is it that someone else made the first Three Sounds thread? ;)

As to the question of a Mosaic or Mosaic Select, from some e-mails from Michael Cuscuna, it seems unlikely but not completely out of the question. Generally, Michael has said that the output of the band was so great that a full blown Mosaic would be too big. On the other hand, he was last heard to claim that he "thought he had found a way" to put out Sounds Blue Note material but wouldn't provide any further details. So I guess that hope springs eternal!

As to the two LPs you asked about, Vibrations is a lot like the Live at the Lighthouse date that came out pretty recently. Again, Gene Harris doubles on organ for several tunes. If you dug the Lighthouse date, by all means this is a worthwhile session. If you didn't ...

Coldwater Flat is an OK date. Contrary to what you may have seen in the All Music guide, it is NOT a date with strings. The trio is supported by the Oliver Nelson Big Band which gives it a different sound.

If you are really desperate to hear these two or can't land copies, PM me.

20 Three Sounds titles have been released on CD (domestic and Japanese) There is also an unreleased TOCJ test pressing of Vibrations. I am not sure how many are still in-print.

I'm hopeful, but not too hopeful of a Mosaic Select. I haven't bugged Michael about it too much lately but the last time we exchanged emails about it he said that he was trying to figure out a way to get it out. Anything would be helpful because I'm sure they would have a large appeal like they did back in the 50s and 60s.

Just picked up a cd of Gene with Stanley T on Concord and it's fantastic.

I have Gene Harris & The Three Sounds LIVE AT THE IT CLUB and Stanley Turrentine & The Three Sounds COMPLETE BLUE NOTE 2cd--both good stuff.

What are some of the best Three Sounds recordings that are OOP? ...the best ones in print?

Really? They're ALL out of print?

Well at least I've got the Turrentine Complete Blue Hour Sessions which is a more than fair representation.

Yes, sadly they are ALL OOP, but if you look around hard enough you can find quite a few and I once heard Gene say that there is about 15 lp's that never were released and I would be most anxious to hear them. I would spring for a Mosaic set, so we will see what Mr. Cuscuna does in the vault, I hope he can find a way for like a 6 or 7 disc set, they deserve it now that Gene has left us due to his diabetes.

Black Orchid is a real hip record. The record has a somewhat more modern groove than some of the others from the time. Tracks include: Randy Weston's "Saucer Eyes", Neal Hefti's "Black Orchid", and the tracks "Don't Go Don't Go" and "Oh Well Oh Well", both originals by Gene Harris. CD reissue adds in 6 bonus tracks -- including "You Dig It", "Nature Boy", "Theme From M Squad", "Back Home", and "Azule Serape". Out of print in the US…

The question is: will "Gene Harris of the Three Sounds" on Bluenote ever be released on CD? This is a wonderful, straight ahead record, and very few people know about it (I own the LP). Came out in the early 1970s, and features Gene with Ron Carter and Freddie Waits. Great tunes - Listen Here, Emily, John Brown's Body, C-Jam Blues. etc. Is anyone else familiar with this album?
