Hello,

First of all I'm new here.
I was wondering if anyone here is also interrested in nu jazz stuff like Amon Tobin, The Cinematic Orchestra etc...
I don't know much about jazz but got into this kind of music through the Ninja Tune label.
Can anyone give me some links to the roots of jazz.
I'm into very fast stuff like be bop but I also like some dark stuff. Not too happy tunes if you know what I mean...
Just let me know if anyone can help me...
Thx a lot.

Cheers.

This is an excellent primer for beginning a jazz library. Since you like Amon Tobin and Cinematic Orchestra I suggest you check out hard bop and funk/soul jazz, late 60s early 70s.

Hey Havoc, what would you say the best Amon Tobin albums are? I've heard of him, but haven't heard his stuff...

it's kinda hard to tell which albums are the best. He released his first album under the name CUJO (Adventures in foam). It's a very chill album, downtempo beats with some jungle/dnb influences but all served with a warm jazzy ambient.
His other albums differ from ambient jungle/breaks to breakbeat (his newer stuff) Permutation has the most jazzy influences of all IMO. With some dark and heavy drums but also fairytale moments.
I think it's best to check out some soundclips on the ninja tune site. All of his albums are released on this label so you can check them out.
My favorites:
CUJO
Amon Tobin - Bricolage
Amon Tobin - Permutation
If you like this albums you might wanna check his newer stuff also (more breakbeat stuff, less ambient, jazzy though)

Thanks Havoc! I will most likely be interested in Tobin's downtempo material.

This is a favorite of mine from that genre:
