Incidentally I heard the album last night and I thought it wasn't bad.

Yeah, she has a lovely voice and seems like a smart thoughtful person -- I've never been a basher. It really strikes me that she was a breath of fresh air and genuine-ness, a change of pace from highly-produced, -melismatic, -digitized, tons-of-electronic-effects pop vocals (analogous to other pendulum swings like rock, punk rock, grunge rock) -- and that of course A&R people will be manufacturing "the next Norah" when the success of this Norah was due precisely to the fact that she wasn't pre-fabricated.

Agreed, Norah is definitely genuine.

BTW, impressive anagram skills, miss maren.

janes honor

If you like the Grammy winning song, Don't Know Why, check out the guy who wrote it, Jesse Harris (http://www.jesseharrismusic.com) and one of his former bands (duo with Rebecca Martin) called Once Blue.

It's not jazz, but it's good music.

yeah. I'm no hater. I like Norah as much as most I guess. Don't have the cd, but wish her luck. I was just bored and her name seemed riped for anagrams. Funny, I don't think I've done an anagram in a million years. Don't know why;) I thought of it.:D

good night, all -- the anagrams were fun --

wish I'd thought of JANE'S HONOR!

I wish Norah well, but I'm afraid (in fact, I happen to KNOW) that BlueNote will be cutting back on new recordings by artists supposedly still on their roster -- quite the opposite of a "rising tide lifting all boats." Can't blame Norah for that (in fact it'll probably make her feel bad and like somebody said elsewhere, SHE hasn't made millions) but it's still a shame.

I love Norah's voice and singing style. I just wish that there were as much support for instrumental jazz as there is for vocal jazz.
