Does anyone have information about an ensemble called Orchestra Superstring who have recently put out a self titled CD on the Dionysus label? I downloaded the album from Emusic on a whim, seeing it in the jazz new release section when I went to download Scott Amendola's "Cry."
What intrigued me was Emusic's blurb: "Orchestra Superstring creates exotic Latin jazz sounds inspired by Martin Denny, Sun Ra and Cal Tjader. The music is mysterious, seductive and three-dimensional, evoked by a seven-piece band using vibes, guitars, trumpet, accordion, upright bass and lots of percussion. The band is comprised of former members of X, Los Lobos and Possum Dixon. Orchestra Superstring offers original tunes along with a Sun Ra cover. "
The music is quite interesting - what crossed my mind was The Latin Playboys meet The Tin Hat Trio if that makes any sense. A Google search turned up very little, and the All Music Guide just had a brief entry with no review posted as of yet.
Thanks.
