I was at the Shepp show. He didn't exactly "blurt," and in the context the sentences were phrased in, it didn't exactly sound radical either.

Also, that show was put on the a group with a name like "World Music Society" or something. When I made a big deal about Shepp playing Lincoln Center on another board, I was told that the show had nothing to do with Marsalis or his crew, and that the space was just rented out.

About Marsalis donating money to small spaces? Sure, that's great. Thing is, there were at east 350 people at the Tully Hall Shepp show, and I've seen at most 50 people at any NYC free jazz show, even when it's major talent like Parker or Shipp. Alternative spaces are great, but most Shepp fans can't seem to find their way to them...
