In one of the last threads that I read on the old BNBB before the deluge there was a posting regarding an email from Blue Note stating that they intended to release Grant Green's "Goin West" in late '03 or early '04. Despite how we may feel now about BN, this is good news. It is a very good session.

I must have missed this in the stampede/exodus from Blue Note Land.
But this will be news that MANY people will be happy to hear, including me.

I hope they still have plans to release it. I'm hoping that they still plan to put out reissues, since they have shown little respect for those who buy them. I'm sure the boycott talk on the old board didn't help our cause either.
I hope they haven't been too spoiled by selling 6 million Norah Jones cds. I have a bad feeling that the new improved Blue Note will be Norah Jones than Elvin Jones.

Great news about Blue Note releasing "Goin West" as it was one of the most requested sessions. I believe Blue Note will remain constant on it's same number of reissues to give Ron McMaster some much needed work.

Thanks for the update, grey. That is good news! I have been able to acquire a fair amount of Grant Green lately (Japanese Imports of Feelin' the Spirit, Grant's First Stand, The Latin Bit, I Want to Hold Your Hand, Street of Dreams), and am really enjoying his sparse lines. Plus, my fiance really digs his sound, too, which is always a plus.

David - all of the Green albums you have are good, you really cannot go wrong on any of his 1961-1966 issues from Blue Note. He also did a lot of great sideman work. I especially like all of the Green/Patton/Dixon combo...
AFAIK, Goin' West is the only Green session from the classic period that has never been issued on CD.
Dave (BTW, in a sense I'm a Turtle too... U of Maryland grad, class of 1987)...

For what it's worth, Michael Cuscuna never mentioned this was "scheduled" but Blue Note in general is aware that Grant Green CDs seem to sell well so I would not be suprised if they did put this out. The next Connoisseur release is scheduled for October. The last time I talked to Michael, they had yet to finalize anything. I think Ron McMaster has to get going on the masters by July to get them out by October so maybe we'll get the titles by that time.
