Hey I have spent the better part of the day listening to Kenny and was wondering what other artists of this period and specifically what music would be best recommended, I have a decent collection of what most would consider the top trumpeters of the 60's, Miles, Lee, Donald Byrd and Freddie Hubbard, but I am looking for something in the same vein as "Una Mas" and/or "Trompeta Toccata". Thanks !!!

Are you very familair with the following?
Blue Mitchell (BLUE'S MOODS, OJC)
Art Farmer (TO SWEDEN WITH LOVE, Atlantic / Koch Jazz)
Joe Gordon (ART BLAKEY AND THE JAZZ MESSENGERS / INTRODUCING JOE GORDON, Verve)
Dusko Goykovich (SWINGING MACEDONIA, Enja)
Tommy Turrentine (hear him to perhaps best advantage on Sonny Clark's LEAPIN' AND LOPIN', Blue Note)
Booker Little (BOOKER LITTLE, Time)
Also, Don Sickler has been profoundly influenced by KD, and has recorded an entire album of Dorham's compositions (Reservoir). His NIGHT WATCH on Uptown is also very, very good.
All these artists play in astyle that should appeal to you.

Actually, this is "just" more Dorham, but try his Whistle Stop (Blue Note Rudy Van Gelder Edition), Joe Henderson's Page One (ditto, features Dorham playing, composing, and writing liner notes--a beautiful album that's really grown on me), Jackie McLean's Vertigo (Blue Note Connoisseur series, plays on half the compilation), and volumes 1 & 2 of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers at the Cafe Bohemia (Blue Note RVG, both with Dorham).
That didn't answer your question, but I've been listening to a lot of Dorham lately, too :) He may not have been world's best trumpeter, but he had his own sound and was a good composer, and I really appreciate both those things.

Joe & Muskrat Ramble, thanks for the suggestions so far. I have some of the affore mentioned titles, Blue's Moods, Leapin' and Lopin', and the Jazz Messenger 's releases, but I will definitely check out the Art Farmer, Joe Gordon and Booker Little. And oh yeah, almost everything that Joe Henderson released in the mid-sixties{Our Thing, Page One, In 'N Out} showcased Kenny as a top-notch player but more importantly as one of the great composers of this era.

More players that should appeal to Dorham fans:
Carmell Jones (his Mosaic Select is a must) and the sadly forgotten Dupree Bolton whose very rare appearances are still available (he is in top form on Harold Land's 'The Fox' (Contemporary) and Curtis Amy's 'Katanga' (Pacific Jazz).
And let's not forget Howard McGhee!

Also Carmell Jones' "Jay Hawk Talk". Definitely get the new Mosaic Select set.
