I suppose this is the most appropriate forum for this question:

Anyone know how to make a compilation CDR from multiple audio CD's using Nero? I was able to do it easily with Easy CD Creator but can't figure out how with Nero. Maybe I'm overlooking the obvious.

When you find out, let me know. It's definitely goofy.

check out J Larsen's thread about CD Burners and note the postings about CDR speeds, recording speeds and buffer over runs.

I'm a mac user when it comes to audio cd compilations so I cant provide any info about Nero.
However, I have greater sucess when making images of the compilation first compared to a disk to disk burning.

images, is basically converting your compilation into digital data first before it is transfered to the burner. The key factor here however is your recording software that it has to be able to duplicate exactly the redbook standards of audio cd into an "image" before it is transfered to the CDR disk.

I've been having burning problems lately. One is that when I pull the .wav file off of the source CD, either directly on the bus or to the hardrive, I get level shifting. It always shifts up in level. It has caused distortion on some discs. The only way I could get rid of this distortion was to use Exact Audio Copy. This has me wondering if it's not EZ CD Creator. I've tried Nero and thought the interface was clunky, but does it "modify" the audio levels during burns?

It may be that EZ CD Creator has some kind of "audio-levelling" feature turned on. I know there is a check-box for that feature but I've had 0 luck in using it to I have it set to "off".

Joel, did you switch to Nero for any special reason?

Kevin

Chaney, that did the trick. Thanks!

Fwiw, I haven't noticed any level problems on my burnt discs, though I haven't been looking for them and don't have an audiophile setup by any means.

Kevin,

There is no Nero version for the Mac but I use Toast (makers of EZ CD). Toast uses redbook standards and there are no distortions involved when I use it nor have I experience any level shifting (sudden volume changes?).

My laptop's CD/DVD drive however is poorly made (LG) and that lead me do the "save an image" to the hard drive rather than the "CD drive to CD Burner" (disc to disc) method.

I do however "Normalize" the levels (volume) when I'm making compilations from diferent albums.
I noticed that older CDs are lower in volume compared to newer CDs.

I've used the program that came with the burner, and I too found that disk-to-disk was much slower than disk-to-computer-to disk.

I was using a Windows 95 machine with a 320 (?) Pentium I.
