I am a big fan of gato. Particularly of the work he did in the 1970's. I like Miles Davis, Rashaan Roland Kirk, Coltrane and a few others. I want to know who is as wild or heavy a player as the ones I have mentioned. I am looking for people who are alive and young enough to enjoy live and for some time in the future.

Gato is for me the jazz :) really i started listening jazz because i heard Coltrane`s in a sentimental mood, but then when i heard Gato-oh my god he was great and still is ! Always was always will be the Argentinean sax master and his robust saxophone sound and soulful phrasing are unmistakable for me-Love him :)

You might find this odd but when I listen to John Zorn (particularly with Electric Masada but also the regular Masada group) I hear the successor to Gato's ferocious tone (albeit on an Alto) - perhaps this is a slightly odd conclusion to come to but I believe that anyone who enjoys Gato's Impulse and Flying Dutchman output will enjoy Electric Masada.
And I'm sure that Zorn is going to be around for a long time to come.
