Gary Giddins has written an interesting article on Louis Sclavis in the Village Voice - ( www.villagevoice.com/issues/0312/giddins.php ).

I haven't heard 'Dans la nuit', but I have the album 'Laffrontement des prétendants', which is in my opinion one of the best jazz recordings in recent years. Giddins doesn't mention Slavis output with the trio Louis Sclavis, Aldo Romano & Henri Texier. The latter trio released two outstanding albums on 'Label Bleu': Carnets de routes & Suite Africaine.

A marvellous player. Those two discs with Romano and Texier are some of my favourite discs of recent years.

A very exciting player live - I was lucky enough to see both the 'Laffrontement des prétendants' band and a tremendous duet performance with Sclavis and David Murray at the same festival.

One of the names I constantly watch out for.

I saw the Sclavis, Romano and Texier trio perform twice and I must admit those where some of the best shows I saw that year!! I bought a ticket for a Louis Sclavis / Michel Portal show this summer, but unfortunately I became ill on the day of the concert and therefore I couldn't attend the show.
