Well my turntable certainly is (Pioneer pl15D) , and moving it and digging out my Lps again has certainly revealled this kind of rumbly hum. Any ideas??

I don't know the particular turntable, but that kind of audible rumble can be caused by
Bearing dry or worn
Platter not level (or whole unit not level)

If it's a hum, could be a faulty ground - check the cartridge ground connection...make sure the ground cable (if there is one) is attached at the pre-amp.

Ground? I guess thats earth here in the UK! I have lubricated the moving parts with a bit of WD40 and that seemed to help. It's an aging set up, but the sounds good,so thanks for the help

Hi Ian,
I hadn't thought of the earth angle - that does cause a hum, but a rumble is usually a mechanical problem. Although the WD 40 will have lubricated the moving parts for the moment, I think that you may need to get a heavier oil into the the bearing. Also a good (and cheap) investment from your local DIY store of a two or three inch long spirit level (about £1) is well worth it

Yes its a rumble not a hum, and especially and only when the decks in use. I shall find a heavier oil and try. Once again thanks
