    Cool Female saxers

Jane Ira Bloom is pretty cool. Very inventive soprano, I think.

There are a lot of good female saxophonists, but it seems like they have a hard time getting recording opportunities. A number have emerged from the big band Diva: Claire Daly (baritone), Karolina Strassmayer, Laura Dreyer, and there's also Mary Fettig, who recorded with Marian McPartland and did one LP for Concord. Obviously, there are many more worth hearing.

Where you search is the internet and your local library. Names you can get here

I would add Barbara Thompson from the UK

Birth Controller to the Jazz Community. (click on the underlined text for more information)

Actually, Phil, isn't Ingrid the trumpet player, and her sister (as I posted earlier) the saxophonist? Not to pick nits, but hey, you're talking about a fellow canuck here!
    Best!

I thought Melba Liston was a trombonist?

not to be nitpicky, but both Terri Lynne Carrington and Cindy Blackman are set players...

Oh, forgot to mention Matana Roberts. One of the more adventurous female sax players out there (as a leader or as a member of Sticks And Stones and Burnt Sugar).
