This might violate your exclusion of "what are the changes to X" threads. But I thought this discussion of the numerous changes for 'Round Midnight was very good.

Of course we're all still waiting for Jake to cough up his transcription of the "Miles changes". Ahem.....

Mantooth wrote a series of books, which I have not read. The titles started with The Best Chord Changes for the ... and ended with ... the Most Requested Standards, or ... the Best Known Songs, and so on. They're still available on Amazon.

Years ago I read one of the Dick Hyman books, I forget which. I found his changes to be good but not particularly jazzy or lush. These are also available on Amazon.

I wish Bill Evans had put out a book of his changes on every known standard. But Bill was very guarded about sharing his changes and voicings; if you wanted them, you had to transcribe them yourself. And Bill's recordings cover only a tiny fraction of the great American song book.

Thanks Phil ... added Amazon links ... but couldn't find a Frank Mantooth book on reharmonization generally ... just his several "Changes" books and of course the Voicings book.

Mike, your "Over The Rainbow" link goes to "Skylark" (as, more usefully, does the Skylark one ).
Great idea for thread, btw. I shall be lurking and stealing... (I may have the odd contribution, but can't think of any right now)

Hi Jon ... thanks ... I know it seems that way, but it actually jumps to a post (Jerry's) in the middle of the Skylark discussion that started an Over The Rainbow discussion! All a bit chaotic.

Cool idea for a thread, Mike.

Recently, I was listening to a big-band version of "Body and Soul," by Rob McConnell and the Boss Brass. Here are the changes for their version, as best as I could figure them out (it's taken as a double-time swing):

A:
Ebmi7 / / / | Bb7 / / / | Ebmi7 / / / | Ebmi7/Ab / Ab7(b9) / |
DbMa7 / G7(b5,b9) / | Gb13 / / / | Fm7 / / / | Edim7 / / / |
Ebmi7 / / / | Ebmi7/Db* / / / | Cmi7 / / / | F13(b9) / F7(#5,b9) / |
Bbmi7 / Eb7 / | Ebmi7/Ab / Ab7(#5,b9) / | DbMa7 / C7(b9) / | Db/Cb** / Bb7 / ||

A1:
Ebmi7 / / / | Bb13(b9) / / / | Ebmi7 / / / | Ebmi7/Ab / Ab13(b9) / |
DbMa7 / / / | Gb13 / / / | Fmi7 / / / | E13*** / A13(b9) / |
Ebmi7 / / / | Ebmi7/Db* / / / | Cmi7 / / / | F7(#5,b9) / / / |
Bbmi7 / Eb7 / | Ebmi7 / Ebmi7/Ab / | Db**** / / / | Emi7/A / A7(b9) /

B:
DMa7 / / / | BbMa13 / A13(b9) / | D**** / / / | Gmi7/C / C7 / |
DMa7 / F13 / | BbMa7 / Db7 / | GbMa9 / AMa7 / | DMa7 / Eb13(#11) / |
Dmi7 / / / | / G7(#9) / / | CMa9 / / / | Bbmi7 / Eb7 / |
AbMa7 / B7 / | EMa7 / G7(b9) / | C7 / B7 / | Bb7 / E13(#11) /

A2:
Ebmi7 / / / | Bb13(b9) / / / | Ebmi7 / / / | Ebmi7/Ab / Ab7(#5,b9) / |
DbMa7 / / / | Gb13 / / / | Fmi7 / / / | Edim7*** / / / |
Ebmi7 / / / | Ebmi7/Db* / / / | Cmi7 / / / | F13(b9) / F7(#5,b9) / |
Bbmi7 / Eb7 / | Ebmi7 / Ebim7/Ab / | Db**** / / / | E7***** / / / :||

Ending (from bar 15 of A2):
Db**** / / / | Gbm7 / Cb7 / | DbMa7 / E9 / | AMa9 / C13 / | FMa9 / Ab13(b9) / DbMa9 / / / ||

Notes:
* may be played as Ebmi7 / Dbmi7 / during solos
** may be played as Bb13(b9) / / / during solos
*** next two bars may be played as Emi7 / A7 / | DMa7 / / / during solos
**** where only the root note is indicated, any note in the major scale can be used to form a major chord (i.e. DbMa7 or DbMa13)
***** may be played as Fm7(b5) / Bb7(b9) / during solos

Yeah, I know, it's confusing.

Those B&S changes are very similar to the ones I used on Bill Ramsays bari feature on "My Museum" CD
( Origin ) -plug plug

it also was done up tempo doubletime, both as a sorta samba and swing style.

Some nice stuff in there! And your thorough footnotes are appreciated. Good job. Thanks.
