Bebel is sometimes criticized since her voice isn't as 'raw' and distinctive as Astrud's. I do like her and although not all of this album is jazz (some pop as well, a bit of funk even) but I would consider her a jazz singer. Not all of the album is in Portuguese but for the most it is. I would recommend it to you slowshoes, like I said for an evening of relaxing and quality time with your family at dinner with some nice quiet music.
I saw John touring the album in Canada in 1980, with Max Middleton on piano, and while he was clearly coked out and was almost incomprehensible in between songs, once he started to play....magic....

I'm a Thompson fan, but must say Sunnyvista is certainly a lesser effort, in fact I can't remember the last time I gave it a spin. First Light isn't a favorite either, I think it's hampered by some poor (far too slick) production. Thompson works best with a good earthly, slightly rough mix. First Light is also hurt lyrically by his heavy involvement at the time with the Sufi Muslim faith.
Still, it's got some good tracks, Restless Highways, Don't Let a Thief, Strange Affair, Pavane...... but the songs are better live.
