Roadmap to Jazz: From Gospel to Jazz

If you like gospel, you may also like...

    Date: 12-May-1999 14:52:12
    From: Sir Rodney
I'd start with recordings by Bobby Timmons (piano), Jimmy Smith (organ) and Horace Silver (piano).

    Date: 17-May-1999 23:34:44
    From: James White
Grant Green "Feelin' the Spirit" and a number of recordings by Hank Mobley ("Soul Station") would also be a good place to start.

    Date: 18-May-1999 11:59:11
    From: Dave K.
How about the '50s stuff by organist Shirley Scott?

    Date: 19-Feb-2000 18:21:01
    From: David Brady (dave@cstoneweb.com)
The best album that I've found which contains a lot of gospel elements is "Swiss Movement" - with Eddie Harris and Les McCann. It's Great!

    Date: 14-Jun-2000 11:48:00
    From: Jonny McIntosh
Mary Lou Williams' "Black Christ of the Andes". It's hard to find and will set you back a bit but it is worth every penny/cent/yen whatever...
