I'd probably call that a Gsus9. Does that make sense?

More Tunes
More Tunes
Okay, we flyin'. Lots more to choose from. Two more that I've been lazy about posting, but inspired by Jay's burst of energy: May I Have This Dance and Box Camera, at Free Jazz Institute. |

Maybe G9sus4? I thought you needed to indicate which note is to be "suspended," either the 2 or the 4, no?
So the G9 gives you the F natural and the A and the sus4 gives you the C. Where's Dogbite when we need him? |

However, if it's a G9sus, it would include the notes G C D F A. If you don't want the D in there, call it F/G. G F A C. G11 to me implies G B D F A C. As we've talked about many times, having both the 3 and 4 in the same chord gives some of us a headache. (It's not a "sus9." The 9 is not suspended. A 9 chord with a sus4 is a "9sus," not a "sus9.") |

It's an uphill push. Lotta people use "sus9." But we know what they mean.

Exactly--as jay says, he wants an F triad with G in the bass. I was taught to call that simply F/G.

One suggestion...could it be a little slower? It seems to want to be sort of dreamy...

Scott, I also think Quiescent would work nicely with cornets. Yeah, we're gonna play them next year!

Jerry, very nice selection of material you're putting up there. Lot's of variety. I especially like "Twenty Four" and "Aisle of White".
"Twenty Four" sounds like a tune that Claudio Roditi would love to tear into. |

Jerry, no I don't know him personally but I've been a fan since I first heard him play in the late 1970's at Jazzmania Society with Thiago de Mello. He lives somewhere in the NYC metro area and he can likely be reached through his record label, Resonance Records.
