Very nice interview - thanks for posting!
Just before reading I played Dogon A.D. - fantastic music, I wished it would be released on cd. |

Tim Berne wanted to reissue it on his label but ran into legal issues. He had it available for free download at his site for a while too until someone made him take it down.

Tim Berne did much of the Dogon A.D. material on his "Diminutive Mysteries" record. If you don't have it...it kills, and should put an end to people talking shit about David Sanborn (as an added bonus!).

Hi CoyotePalace
I'm a big fan of Dimunitive (incl. Sanborn!) and didn't realise that it included pieces from Dogon A.D. as that is one of the holy grails that I've never laid eyes on Which pieces on the Berne disc are on Dogon A.D.? thanks mjazzg |

Technically, there is only one piece..."Rites" that is a direct tune from Dogan A.D.

Marty Erhlich new album "Things Have Got To Change" has a cover of the tune "Dogon AD" on it...also a killer album with strong Hemphill vibes!

Thanks for that link - I found it myself, inspired by your comments, shortly after my last post and have now listened to Dogon A.D. I can see why it's held in such regard even after only one listen. More in depth listening to follow soon
I've been thinking about the new Ehrlich and will add it to my next Clean Feed order (listening to Ehrlich's 'Can you hear a motion' right now and wondering why I don't listen to it more often), Fine player, fine writer. It's the Hemphill Sextets on Black saint next thanks for kicking off a JH day with that interview and leading me to Dogon cheers |

Cheers for the links. Vijay Iyer also does a cover of Dogon A.D. on Historicity.

This album has 'The Hard Blues' on it which was recorded at the same time as Dogon A.D. It was originally released as 'Coon Bid'ness.
![]() I have a copy, let me know if it's not readily available. |

Tim Berne has Blue Boye on Screwgun http://www.screwgunrecords.com/recor...cord=Blue_Boye, and http://www.amazon.com/Live-at-Brookl...7207406&sr=1-3 has some of the best Hemphill you'll ever hear.
Then there's http://www.amazon.com/Boye-Gotham-Mi...7208798&sr=1-9, which appears to be the old Sackville release of Roi Boye and the Gotham Minstrels, not to be confused with Blue Boye although both feature Hemphill in triplicate improvising live over taped parts. And finally, there's http://www.amazon.com/Materials-Resi...mus_ep_wlb_dpt. The cover shot alone is worth the price, but it has the best Abdul Wadud/Hemphill interaction on record, plus Don Moye makes trio.
