Um, in case you didn't know, AAJ is a volunteer-driven site. I don't make a bean from my work for this site, so I may be (somewhat) successful as a writer, but I'm not making a living here....

I believe that our resident ECM expert would know better than I.

Mr. Kelman? Mr. Kelman?

Alas, can't tell you for sure. US distribution's scheduled for 2009 is over, so for example, the new Towner, Stanko, etc will not be released stateside til Q1 /2010.

Based on the other boxes, it's likely that the Weber will see US release, but I can't guarantee that, it's only my feeling, so if you're jonesing for it, I'd go ahead and grab it now.

Sorry I can't be more definitive.
John

It looks like you can get it sent to the states from Amazon.co.uk for around $33, including shipping.

Is anybody else listening to the new Bollani? What a fantastic album... probably my album of the year (listened to it at least 10 times). In fact, I'm going to make a crazy statement here and say that this trio performance is one of the best since Bill Evans' trios.

Haven't heard it yet but the amazon samples have got me keen. Bill Evans' trios were great, but if there is one thing this world is not short of it's A+++ piano trio albums. Spoiled for choice, we are.

Ralph Towner/Paolo Fresu, Chiaroscuro

Ralph Towner's new cd with trumpeter Paolo Fresu won't be out in the US til March, 2010, but since it's out now in Europe, here's a review.

Tomasz Stanko Quintet: Dark Eyes

Here's a review of Tomasz Stanko's lovely new disc, Dark Eyesby a new (and young!) AAJ contributor who, imo, has a lot to say, David McLean. You'll not see a review from yours truly because, with one of my photos used in the liners, AAJ's policy doesn't permit me to review it (if a writer is involved with a release in any professional way, we consider him/her reviewing it as a conflict of interest.

I did, however, see the group at Molde this past summer, so here's a review of that show as a dovetail/adjunct to David's CD review. The CD is out in Europe now, will be out in North American in early 2010.
Best!
John

Wow! A really daring statement...

I saw the trio last monday in Milan... and, actually, I must admit I prefer them live than on CD...
The reasons are the same I expressed some pages before: while on CD they resemble (in my opinion) several other ECM trios, on stage they sound (and are, still imho) more personal, spectacular and aggressive.
Bollani is simply astounding: he is able to mix, in the same piece, classical and pop quotations, whistling, scorching blues improvisations, and a magical interplay with his mates.
Almost all the pieces played in the concert came from "Stone in the water", but sometimes it was very hard to recognize them...
The two Danes are excellent musicians, and the trio is really tight (they've been playing together for 6 years).
Enrico Rava took part as a special guest for two tunes, plus the triumphal encore...
