Towards the end of last year, I posted a list of some of my favorite recent piano trios, notably, the Marcin Wasilewski's Faithful (ECM, 2011) and Colin Vallon's Rruga (ECM, 2011), and also great 7-CD boxset collecting Brad Mehldau's incredible run from 1996-2001.
Over on other threads, Hutch, Save, and I have cited some new piano trio releases from 2012. I thought it might be good to collect them here as well. They are three great ones--and very different from one another in terms of sound and style. Vijay Iyer Trio, Accelerando (ACT) / Brad Mehldau Trio, Ode (Nonesuch) / Enrico Pieranunzi Trio, Permutation (CamJazz) ![]() By the way, you can stream Pieranunzi's Permutation on the CamJazz website. Here's the link: http://www.camjazz.com/8052405140500...tation-cd.html Enjoy. |

There's a new album out from the Espen Eriksen Trio.
Typical Scandinavian introvert piano-jazz, I'm now playing it for the first time, but it seems really nice.. ![]() http://www.espeneriksentrio.com/ |

Espen Eriksen Trio
Thanks for the heads-up on "What Took You So Long", trigg015.
I certainly enjoyed the Espen Eriksen Trio's last album, "You Had Me At Goodbye", and I'll almost certainly buy this new one, too. Basically, if an album is "typical Scandinavian introvert piano-jazz", then I'm an absolute sucker for it. I'm powerless to resist. A couple of clicks on the old computer, and yet another mellow, restrained piano-bass-drums CD is on its way to my tasteful collection. Much to the dismay of Mrs Elephant Shrew, I should add.

Let me also add my support of Mehldau's new disc, Ode; just spent some time with Norwegian saxophonist Petter Wettre (terrific player, btw), and he feels this is an important record that, were it made at a time when it was possible, it would have been huge and influential. I am prone to agree with him...

Also my favorite e.s.t. recording.
Yes!!! A magnificent record. And Flanagan's best, I think.
