Coleman, Osby, Lehman, Mahanthappa. Tenor counterparts?

Mahanthappa might be the odd one out there by a bit, but Greg Osby, Steve Coleman, and Steve Lehman all definitely have a similar vocabulary--angular and chromatic--and sharp/agitated tone.

What tenor players have a similar style? All that comes to mind is Gary Thomas and Mark Shim.

Rudresh's replacement in Amir ElSaffar's Two Rivers band is a guy named Ole Mathisen, who kind of has the sound you're describing. I haven't really listened to any of his other stuff besides his playing on "Inana", though.

Off the top of my head i can't think of anyone... Tony Malaby at times but not really... Haven't heard Gary Thomas will have to check him out...

I haven't listened to a lot of Osby and Mahanthappa but i definitely associate Mahanthappa/Osby/Coleman/Lehman in my mind... on a side note, i wonder if people who know Coleman mainly from his work in the 90s have checked out his recent stuff... it's like 80s Miles compared to the Second Great Quintet, IMO... (flawed analogy etc and no disrespect intended to either 80s Miles or 90s Coleman...)

Enjoyed listening to that; Cheers... I think that there is something in particular to the sound of the alto that adds to the bite, that sense of urgency that Lehman and co's playing carries...

Yeah that's a great piece. Wish there was more like it... wish there was ANYTHING like it, even by Coleman.
