Johnny Hodges and Wild Bill Davis

Anyone ever listen to much of the pairing of Johnny Hodges and Wild Bill Davis. Picked this up today. Very interesting. Hodges is very very good.
Seven piece band also has: Lawrence Brown, Richard Davis, Hank Jones, Ben Dixon, and Grant Green.

That one and the three or four other Rabbit with organ LP sessions for Verve have been prized items in my LP collection for decades. Fortunately they are now NEARLY all out on CD, from Lone Hill, I think.
Still to be released on CD is a superb LP from that era called Swing's Our Thing, placing Hodges with Earl Hines. Cat Anderson , Buster Cooper and some other of Duke's men are there, too. I think this is some of Cat's best work on LP, since he feels no need to play goofy stuff up high all the time.

Back to the Hodges/WBD sessions - Grant Green and Lawrence Brown are on a couple of them and are wonderful, as always.

Yea, I've never really listened to any Cat Anderson outside of Ellington. I'd like to hear it. I know what you mean. Sometimes is Ellington's band he does get a little goofy.
