according to the discographies, Hayes first recording was a Parlophone 78 , led by Kenny Baker.
In an earlier post Simon eluded to the possible issue of early Hayes recordings.
Is there any chance this might be one, or is it available on some Baker reissue?

Both Hayes and Jimmy Skidmore are listed as being present, any Hayes solo, or interplay with Skidmore?

The tracks are I only Have Eyes For You, and I Can't Get Started
I might expect the latter, given it's history, to perhaps be a trumpet feature for Baker

Perhaps Simon has the answer, considering his upcoming book.

Alas, there are no solo contributions by Tubbs on either side and - as far as I'm aware - this has never been reissued on LP or CD.

Thanks. I don't believe in astrology, much to a friend's concern, but alas being a virgo, I tend towards meticulous excesses. Tend to being as close to a "complete - ist" as possible about certain jazz musicians as far as solo contributions are concerned.Having grown up in England during the period when Modern Jazz was beginning to be recognized, Mr Hayes is one of them.

So now I no longer have to prowl the internet and used record stores etc. for that particular item.

looking forward to the book.

That's great. Their previous two releases are outstanding.

Tubbs' classic 100% Proof, of course!

Plong sent me Tubby's entire solo written out. It's as long as the Bayeux Tapestry and certainly eats some printer ink......

I just have this vision of a music stand with scroll winders at either end and a page turner (read out of work music graduate) winding the handles as you play through

Simon - I wonder if a copy might get emailed to me if I asked nicely ??..

Chales McNeal is kindly hosting a few of my own Tubby Hayes transcriptions , alongside two dozen others, and many other people's work..

Tubby Hayes - The Complete Tempo Recordings 1955-59 (Acrobat ASCD 6002) out next month.

6 CD's with a 23 page booklet.

Everything Tubby recorded as leader or co-leader at Decca Studios compiled in one place, available at a bargain price.

New in early 2013: Rumpus - The Tubby Hayes Big Band Live 1969 (Savage-Solweig) and Where Am I Going? - The Tubby Hayes Quartet Live 1969 (Savage-Solweig).

There's also a new Tubby Properbox and - most exciting of all - a live gig recording (in amazing sound quality) of Tubby and Tony Oxley!

Watch this space!
